Green Power

“Green” power refers to that kind of power which limits carbon emissions. That is, it is energy generation designed to meet the needs of the present without sacrificing the planet’s needs of the future.

The precise definition of which power is “green” depends on the person you talk to—some will say it includes nuclear power and even certain kinds of fossil fuels, as long as they are used transitionally while technology develops elsewhere. Others will claim that it’s only really “green” if it involves energy sources that will not be depleted and that do not pollute.

Examples of green power under this latter definition include renewable sources such as solar, wind, and wave power. Biofuels can also be listed as a source of green energy. Some even include nuclear technology as a “green” energy source, though others dispute this. At its most general, green power can be said to describe any source that improves energy efficiency.
