Solar Power

There are two primary categories of solar power: active and passive. Both of these categories utilize power from the sun, but in different ways. Active solar methods refer to technology such as solar panels and thermal collectors, which actively convert sunlight into usable outputs. Passive solar techniques include architectural design that orients a building to the sun and deliberately designed spaces that effectively circulate air naturally.

The idea of utilizing the sun’s energy is not new. In fact it has even been successfully achieved in the past in a number of ways. However, since it is more crucial now than ever, as finite, environmentally-questionable fuel sources are criticized, today solar technology is developing more rapidly than it has in the past. As the need to change our energy habits increases, solar power is likely to be one of the key alternative energy sources of the future.

Solar power is renewable and does not pollute. In the case of passive solar power, simple forward-thinking design can go a long way to reducing energy use. There are also benefits to active solar power through using something like solar panels, though the initial installation can be somewhat expensive. After the installation, however, these panels remain quiet and easy to maintain.
